Tour Program

Individual arrival to Montecatini Terme

Welcome and tour information at the arrival hotel in Montecatini Terme.

Montecarlo (about 58 km, about 36 miles / about 750 Hm)

The longest of the six tours leads between centuries-old olive trees and holm oaks through the hills on the edge of Valdinievole, the valley of the mist near Montecatini. If the route is initially rather flat along the Pescia River, it becomes increasingly demanding in the Montecarlo area. Before you go through the vineyards to Montecarlo, you can expect great mountain bike trails and forests leading forest roads. In Montecarlo you have the opportunity to visit Fortezza del Cerruglio Castle (booking on request – in advance) and / or taste the delicious local wines on a guided tour of the Fattoria del Teso winery.

Montecatini – Lucca – Viareggio (about 83 km, about 51,6 miles / about 280 Hm)

Starting in Montecatini by bike (alternative: by train to Lucca)
In the city of Lucca, there is a round trip on the four-kilometer-long city wall (from ‘500). Then you drive along the banks of the river Serchio. Continuing along the route you will pass the medieval Castello di Nozzano and the ruins of the towers of Ripafratta, enjoying the beautiful Tuscan flat countryside. You finally arrive in the beautiful nature park of “Migliarino di San Rossore”. At the free beach near Torre del Lago you can swim here in the sea. At the end of the tour you reach the seaside resort of Viareggio. Here you can treat yourself to a well-earned relaxation with a “gelato” and a view of the sea. Return to Montecatini by train.

Montecatini and the “borghi medievali” (about 23,6 km, about 14,6 miles / about 650 Hm)

An undulating circuit through the rolling hills of Valdinievole in western Montecatini awaits you on this tour. You cycle through olive groves and vineyards as well as through small old villages such as Colle di Buggiano or Massa. In addition, you can enjoy beautiful panoramas in the expanse of the valley. Equally appealing is the 17th century Villa di Bellavista with an English garden in Buggiano.

Montecatini Alto (about 18,5 km, about 11,5 miles / about 450 Hm)

Today’s route – a short one – runs on an impressive panoramic road, through olive groves and vineyards. The descent takes you to the hilltop town of Montecatini Alto, we recommend spending some time here. Surely you deserve a delicious Italian ice cream or a delicious cappuccino on the enchanting Piazza Giusti.

Padule di Fucecchio (about 31,3 km, about 19,4 miles / about 180 Hm)

A nature experience of a special kind awaits you on today’s trip to the nature park “Padule di Fucecchio“, one of the largest wetlands in Europe. You reach the most beautiful spots, the park is rich in rare marsh plants and waterfowl. The largest channel of the Padule di Fucecchio flows into the largest river in Tuscany, the Arno. In the interior of the park there are also old tobacco factories and buildings where marsh grasses have been processed. The tour is mainly in flat terrain. On the tour you have the opportunity to make a tasting of local specialties (Fattoria Settepassi – on request).

Montecatini – Pescia – Collodi – Montecatini (ca. 36,8 km, 22,9 miles / about 1000 Hm)

This tour connects the thermal town of Montecatini with the medieval town of Pescia. Pescia is one of the most important flower and plant cities in Europe. At the same time it is known locally for its medieval commemoration. On its rectangular piazza are several architecturally interesting buildings.
This route is marked on this circuit by a constant ups and downs. The paths are partly paved, as for example on the “Via della Fiaba” (from the well-known Pinocchio tale), others run on gravel. A stage stop is Collodi, home of the famous Pinocchio. Like a waterfall, the village meanders down the mountain. You will see during this tour the typical village “Monte a Pescia” and other little villages, like Uzzano and the small medieval town of Stignano with its charming church.

See what our customers have been saying!

“The rides were as challenging as described (which was great in our opinion!) Staying 2 nights in each community allowed us time to relax, and enjoy each area. Following the route was surprisingly easy, we just watched for the Silver dollar size directional signs at every intersection. We rented bikes and we were very pleased with the quality. An incredibly beautiful, stress free Tour!”
Joe Segale

“Our cycling trip was beyond our expectations. Starting with a welcome toast to the beautifully planned out route and lovely accommodations. We have already started thinking about our next trip with Giro di Toscana. Raimund, thank you and your team for one of the best trips we’ve had!”
Kathleen Dowd-Hill

“This is a great road bike tour and we will recommend it to anyone who is interested in joining a future tour. It is extremely well organized/well marked and Raimund was great. He helped us through a variety of issues.”
