Pfalz and Rheinhessen: the Germany’s Tuscany
Close to nature, vineyards, beautiful views and quaint villages: these are the ingredients for a road cycle tour through Rheinhessen.
It is by no means an exaggeration to say that this area with forest, vineyards and the river Rhine is a dreamland. The weather and climate seem to look favourably on the German wine route, almost opening onto a Garden of Eden: almond trees, figs, lemons, huge oleander bushes and a sea of vines full of sun and aromas in the vintage season.
You have the Pfälzer Wald, with its 673 maximum altitude, which offers outstanding climbing terrain. On the other hand there are the rolling hills along the German wine route providing an opportunity for leisurely cycling through lovely towns and deep in the Rhine valley.
Forwards to sunny Wonnegau! Close to nature, vineyards, beautiful views and quaint villages: these are the ingredients for a road cycle tour through Rheinhessen.
Last but not least our routes include parts of Rheingau with Rüdesheim, Taunus as well as Heidelberg and Odenwald.
Base 3: BAD DÜRKHEIM
In the heart of the Palatinate region, on the edge of the Pfälzer Wald, in one of the most beautiful parts of the German wine route, is the spa town of Bad Dürkheim. Its position is ideal for a wide range of road cycling trips.
Apart from sports, in Bad Dürkheim you have one of the longest salt works in Germany, the Dürkheimer Riesenfass, the Roman vineyard of Weilberg, and in September the largest wine festival in the world: the Wurstmarkt.
